Highlights

New Era at FedEx

FedEx (FDX) names Raj Subramaniam as CEO, replacing founder Fred Smith effective June 1. Subramaniam will serve as both CEO and President and Smith will become Executive Chairman.

Subramaniam, who joined FedEx in 1991, most rose to become the company’s chief marketing and communications officer and also served as the top executive of FedEx Express. He became president and chief operating officer in 2019 and joined the FedEx board in 2020.

Subramaniam takes the helm as FedEx faces mounting competition from its primary rival United Parcel Service (UPS) as well as former customer Amazon (AMZN).

Volta Founders Depart amidst downward guidance and 10-K delay

Electric Vehicle (EV) charging company Volta (VLTA) announced that its founders, Scott Mercer and Christopher Wendel, resigned from their positions as CEO and President, respectively, and from the Board of Directors of the Company. The Board has appointed independent directors Vince Cubbage and Kathy Savitt as the Board’s Co-Chairs, and says it will  keep the CEO and Board Chair roles separate going forward.

The news is clearly troubling as Volta also pre-announced disappointing guidance. The company also says its 10-K filing will be delayed. Shares closed at $3.21.

WeWork appoints Saurabh Jalan to the Board

Flexible workspace provider WeWork (WE) announced that Saurabh Jalan, Partner at SoftBank Group International (SBGI), has joined the Board of Directors, replacing Marcelo Claure. Prior to joining SoftBank, Jalan held positions at private equity firms AEA Investors and Silver Lake Partners. Claure left his roles at WeWork and Softbank after a reported disagreement over compensation.
