Volatile Winners Rewire The Control Room
Biotech Reset After A Round Trip
KalVista Pharmaceuticals (KALV) turned a board refresh into a board reset: Benjamin Palleiko exited as CEO, multiple directors resigned, John Hess became sole director and Brian Piekos moved into the finance seat. The stock collapsed 84% from its June 14, 2021 peak before recovering most of the damage — a round trip that leaves governance looking less settled than the share price.

The exits carry real signal. Nancy Stuart left after drawing just 62% support at the last director vote, while William Fairey — a former MyoKardia commercial chief who still sits on Mirum (MIRM), Rein (RNTX) and Ascendis (ASND) boards — also stepped off.
Semis Add Bench Strength
Micron Technology (MU) added Alexis Black Björlin to an A-rated board at a company whose stock has returned 1,194% over five years. Even this winner had a 54% drawdown from its June 10, 2024 peak; the appointment reads like scaling the governance bench after a violent AI-memory rerating, not triage.

Marvell Technology (MRVL) moved Daniel Durn from director to CFO as Willem Meintjes resigns effective June 15, importing a finance operator with prior semiconductor deal experience. The stock collapsed 60% from its Jan. 13, 2025 peak before reaching a new five-year high, so the CFO seat now carries execution risk at altitude.

The C-Suite Math
This was not a director-noise week. The scoreboard showed 13 CEO changes and 20 CFO changes, with Healthcare leading CEO/CFO turnover at seven transitions and 19 companies already carrying three or more CEO, CFO or COO starters in three years.
Role Moves That Matter
CEO Transitions
- Perrigo (PRGO) installed Albert Manzone as interim CEO after Patrick Lockwood-Taylor resigned; shares fell 57%, and it screens HIGH activist risk.
- Compass Diversified (CODI) set Zach Sawtelle To take CEO in 2027, with six director exits and a 20-year longest-tenured director.
- Dana (DAN) tapped Byron Foster as CEO effective July 1, extending a three-year stretch with two CEOs and ten director exits.
CFO Transitions
- Grocery Outlet (GO) named Ian Ferry CFO, its third finance chief in three years, while shares trail the S&P by roughly 53 points.
- Dentsply Sirona (XRAY) appointed John Fortson CFO, making five finance chiefs in three years at a D-rated company.
- Adobe (ADBE) moved Steven Day into interim CFO after Daniel Durn‘s exit, with shares down 47% over one year.
Board / Director Changes
- Upwork (UPWK) swapped out two directors and added Claire Bramley and David Lissy; one departing director drew only 79% support.
- FedEx (FDX) added Mark Edmunds to chair audit and finance as Silvia Davila left; eight director exits mark five years.
- Fluence Energy (FLNC) replaced Chris Shelton with Bernerd Da Santos after six director exits in five years, despite a 388% one-year run.

Beyond the headline
Consumer Succession Looks Uneasy
Consumer names with old boards and weak market spreads kept rotating leaders, from grocery finance churn To auto and RV succession work (Grocery Outlet, Dana, LCI Industries).
