What do America's top CEOs get paid?
A live tracker of executive compensation at U.S. public companies — who's paid the most, how each package breaks down between salary, stock, and incentive, and how the pay lines up with shareholder return.
Highest-paid CEOs
Total pay includes one-time equity grants (a new-CEO sign-on or founder award) that lift a few packages far above their recurring level. Limited to Boardroom-Alpha-rated companies with at least a one-year shareholder return.

Swings are frequently driven by one-time equity grants landing (or rolling off) in a single year, not changes to base salary.
About this data
- Where does this compensation data come from?
- Every figure is drawn from companies' own SEC proxy statements — specifically the Summary Compensation Table each public company files ahead of its annual meeting. Boardroom Alpha extracts and structures 25+ years of these filings, broken down to salary, stock awards, option awards, and incentive pay, for tens of thousands of executives.
- How is “total pay” defined?
- Total pay is the total compensation figure as disclosed in the proxy Summary Compensation Table for the fiscal year — salary, bonus, stock and option awards, non-equity incentive, and other compensation. It reflects pay as reported (grant-date values), so a large one-time equity grant can lift a single year's total well above the recurring level.
- How often is this page updated?
- It refreshes as new proxy statements are filed — most land in the spring and summer ahead of annual meetings. Each company is shown at its most recently filed fiscal year, so the leaderboard and trends update through the season. The “data as of” stamp reflects the latest filing indexed.
- How is pay compared to performance?
- The 3-year return column is each company's annualized total shareholder return (share price plus dividends) over the CEO's recent tenure — so you can see, at a glance, whether a large package came with returns for shareholders. It is a return figure, not a proxy-advisor score; Boardroom Alpha is independent of the proxy advisors.
- Does this cover more than CEOs?
- This hub focuses on CEO pay, but the underlying dataset covers CFOs and other named executive officers too, plus say-on-pay vote outcomes and pay-versus-performance detail. Those are available through the Boardroom Alpha platform and API.
Sources & method. Compensation is total pay as disclosed in each company's SEC proxy statement (the Summary Compensation Table) — grant-date values, not realized take-home pay. Board grades (A–F) and total shareholder return are Boardroom Alpha's. Figures update as new proxies are filed. For information only; not investment advice.
