Highlights

Can a new CEO at Domino’s (DPZ) take the pizza maker to the next phase of post-COVID growth ?

Russell Weiner starts as Domino’s new CEO. Weiner, formerly DPZ Chief Operating Officer, succeeds Ritch Allison, who ends a four year tenure as CEO of the pizza giant. Allison is credited with helping Domino’s grow sales and margins intact by refusing to pay third-party delivery services. While Domino’s grew rapidly during the pandemic, the company now faces increased competition and as diners return to restaurants. DPZ shares have declined 38% YTD, vs. a 14% decline for the S&P500 over the same period. Same store sales (+1% last quarter) have disappointed, owing to staffing challenges and delays in new store openings. Also recall Sandeep Reddy, formerly CFO of Six Flags Entertainment Corp. (SIX) began as CFO April 1.
