Trian Fund Management
Trian Fund Management is an activist investment firm founded by Nelson Peltz, Peter May, and Ed Garden in 2005. The firm takes large stakes in companies and works with management to improve operations and increase shareholder value. Trian had a notable campaign with Procter & Gamble in 2017. The firm took a $3.5 billion stake in the company and pushed for changes in its board and management. After a contentious battle, Trian was able to secure a seat on the board and worked with management to streamline operations and improve profitability. Another notable campaign was Trian's investment in General Electric in 2015. The firm took a $2.5 billion stake in the company and pushed for changes in its operations and management. After a few years, Trian sold its position in GE, citing disappointment in the company's progress. Other notable campaigns by Trian include investments in DuPont, PepsiCo, and Sysco. In each case, the firm took an activist approach to try to improve the companies' performance and increase shareholder value.
