Boardroom Alpha’s Proposal Analytics search uses common “web search” syntax to help you identify proposals of interest.
The Basics
Web search syntax parses according to these rules:
- Individual words match independently.
- Double-quoted phrases match as a single unit.
- The word OR (case-insensitive) specifies an “or” condition between two words or phrases.
- A – prefix specifies to not match the following word or phrase.
- Discards stop words, such as “a” or “the” in English
The below table gives some examples proposal queries and their results.

| climate paris | The two words can appear in any order, with any number of words between |
| “paris climate” | The words must appear together in the given order |
| “the climate” | Stop words are removed within quotes |
| climate or paris | Either word will match |
| “paris climate” or “london climate” | One of the two phrases must match |
| paris climate or ghg | Either “paris” and “climate” match, or just “ghg” |
| –ghg | “ghg” must not match |
| paris –climate | “paris” matches and “climate” does not |
| “paris climate” –“london climate” | “paris climate” matches and “london climate” does not |
