Highlights

Sheryl Sandberg steps down as COO of Meta Platforms. Sandberg, the No. 2 executive at Facebook owner Meta Platforms (FB), was pivotal in the transformation of the business from startup to $100 billion digital advertising Goliath. Sandberg took much of the blame for Facebook’s biggest missteps—  including how some of her business decisions helped propagate misinformation and hate speech. Sandberg, who has served as COO for 14 years, originally joined from Google (GOOG, GOOGL) in 2008– four years before Facebook went public. Javier Ollivan, currently Meta’s chief growth officer, will take over for Sandberg this fall. Sandberg will continue to serve on Meta’s board of directors and plans to focus on her personal philanthropy and foundation, Lean In. FB shares have declined 43% year-to-date, as the company struggles to stabilize the business and communicate the value of a multibillion-dollar investment in its augmented reality “metaverse.”

Board additions this week:

  • Orion Acquisition Corp. (OHPA) adds Kenneth R. Goulet to its board of directors. Goulet semi-retired in 2015. Previously, Goulet served as the executive vice president of Anthem Inc., and president of the company’s Commercial and Specialty Business division. The SPAC is seeking a transaction in the healthcare industry.
  • SDCL Edge Acquisition Corp. (SEDA) adds Karl E. Olsoni to its board of directors. Since 2018, Olsoni has acted as Operating Partner and Senior Managing Director at private equity firm Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, focusing on investments in distributed infrastructure and technology. SEDA is focussed on energy efficient and decentralized energy solutions for a lower carbon economy and, in particular, for the built environment and transport sectors.
